Artisans by the Sea is the San Diego chapter of IDAL, the International Decorative Artisans League (http://www.decorativeartisans.org/). Our members include hobbyists, professionals, and most of all, enthusiasts!

Reba van Betham

                       On August 2, 2010 our dear friend Reba passed away.   

After a long and difficult battle with cancer, her life came to a peaceful end.

She will be deeply missed.

Hi Artisans,

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 14 from 6 to 9 PM at the home of Beth Campbell, 12465 Oakfort Place, which is in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego.  Those of you who have not visited Beth’s lovely home, can find directions here:  12465 Oakfort Place, San Diego, CA - Google Maps

We are planning a most interesting evening.  One of our members, Carolyn Reynolds has volunteered to give us a presentation of several of the artistic interests she pursues.  Carolyn is a decorative artist, certified Feng Shui consultant, author, speaker, nutritionist.  We will learn how these fields interact with art forms such as stenciling, wall finishes, painted furniture and creating beautiful living spaces for ourselves and our clients.

Our evening will include wine, cheese, appetizers and desserts.  Beth will have soda, water, coffee and tea available.  If your first name starts with a letter between A and M, bring an appetizer.  If it starts with N through Z, bring a dessert.

Notes from the class on August 10

There were fourteen members in attendance for this class. Brenda Glad, our program director, spends a month each year at her vacation home in Maine, and this was her time away. Thanks, Brenda for setting everything up before you left!

Before we began our class, we spent a few minutes remembering Reba, and sharing some stories with each other. We all have fond memories of this lovely lady. Likewise, we acknowledged Sandi Scott, her sister. She set an example for
all of us regarding self-sacrifice. She gave up everything for months to spend that time with Reba. And, she was there the whole way, right to the end. We are all grateful for the valuable life-lessons these two wonderful ladies taught us.

Katherine Hunter, our spiritual leader, spoke eloquently about Reba, telling us some sweet stories about her.

Elaine and Linda were our class leaders, and brought loads of materials along with them. This tool produces amazing and unique results. However, our group consensus is that it would be best marketed to drywallers and plasterers, not painters.

Our next two meetings will be held at Beth Cambell’s house, and her address is12465 Oakfort Place, San Diego, 92131. Watch for a meeting notice from Brenda about a week before the September 14 date.
